Airport Pick up:
Most of the colleges provide this service to the students however students have to pay an amount of money to get this service. This service can often be arranged through your institute and should be organized a few weeks before you leave home.

Once you arrive to Australia, you have to contact the international office at your institute, obtain a student card, enroll and attend the orientation session provided by your institution, open a bank account and apply for tax file no.

You can apply for permission to work up to 20 hours a week after you started your course of study. If you are looking forward to work part time you should complete a form from DIMA (Form 157P) to request permission to work and pay an application fee of amount AUD$ 60. If you are allowed to work, a new visa label will be put into your passport. It will have a work limitation condition (8105 or 8104) instead of no work condition (8101). If you work more than 20 hours per week and if immigration comes to know about this then you will be in trouble.

There are number of conditions on your visa you must follow to be allowed to study in Australia. The main conditions are that you must:
  • Attend at least 80 percent of your classes
  • Achieve satisfactory academic results
  • Continue to be enrolled in a registered course
  • Notify your education provider of your address within seven days of arriving in Australian and within seven days of any change in your address
  • Notify you original educational provider if you change to a new education provider
  • Maintain OSHC cover
OSHC cost varies but generally it starts from AUD 312 per year. If your spouse and children are accompanying you to Australia, you need to pay family premium. OSHC covers most medical expenses and cost of hospital care. Dental and optometry cost are not included in OSHC.

Accommodation:
Request for accommodation either to your education provider or an education agent at least one week before you leave to Australia. You have to be sure that which forms of accommodation you will be choosing. There are basically five options for students;
  • Home Stay
  • Rent Apartment
  • Rent a house
  • Backpackers Hostel
  • Accommodation in Universities
First one is home stay where you will stay with Australian family. Home stay has some advantages and disadvantages as does any other accommodation, but one of the best things is that it can be arranged by the student at the same time as your course is being arrange from your home country. Another advantage of home stay is that you are living with a real Australian family. Your English will improve dramatically and you will know more about culture of Australia at the short time. Second option is to share an apartment with other people. This way you can share the cost of rent. There will be other expenditures of bills which student have to pay in addition to rent.

Third option is share a house with. This is very important point because you need to share your accommodation with people you get along with. Fourth option is backpacker hostels, this option is probably the cheapest accommodation in Australia, however they are generally only short term accommodation options, suitable until you find more long term accommodation. The disadvantage of staying in a backpacker is that you will share a room, share a bathroom and there is no where privacy.

Fifth option is accommodation available in Universities. The rooms are quite small, composed of one room integrated with kitchen, toilet, a bedroom, a cupboard and a desk and meals included. They are expensive compare to other form of accommodation. They must be book well in advance as numbers are limited.
