About IELTS:
IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is designed to assess the language ability of candidates who need to study or work where English is the language of communication.
There are 2 types of IELTS, general and academic. Depending upon the purpose you have to choose one of these. Both modules are made up of listening, writing, speaking and listening.

http://www.ielts.org/test_centre_search/search_results.aspx). IELTS is managed by British Council, IDP, IELTS Australia and University of Cambridge ESOL examinations (Cambridge ESOL).
IELTS is nine-band score system.
Test Format:
Both academic and general have four sections, listening and speaking is same for both types where as reading and writing is different.
Listening:
4 sections/40 items/30 minutes
General training reading:
3 sections/40 items/60 minutes
Academic reading
3 sections/40 items/60 minutes
Academic writing:
2 tasks/60 minutes
General training writing:
2 tasks/60 minutes
Speaking:
15 minutes

Registration:
For registration you need two passport size photographs and passport copy.
